An Overview of the National Flood Insurance Program in Washington, DC

Flood insurance is available to residents of Washington, DC primarily through the National Flood Insurance Program. However, flood risk extends beyond the 100-year floodplain and many residential properties exposed to flooding are not insured. This brief, produced in partnership with the District of Columbia’s Department of Energy and Environment, explores flood risk in DC and the role of flood insurance in helping residents recover.
