The Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance at COP30

The Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance and many of our members will be at COP30 in Belém, Brazil to share expertise and evidence advocating for the needs of climate vulnerable communities across the globe. The 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, COP30, will run from 10th-21st November 2025.

The Alliance’s key asks at COP30

  • Increasing the provision of international public adaptation finance through a renewed commitment to replace the Glasgow target. As the commitment from the Glasgow Climate Pact to double adaptation finance runs out this year, it should be replaced with a new commitment that more closely reflects the actual needs of developing countries to help sustain much-needed momentum for adaptation efforts.
  • A recognition of the role, potential and limits of private finance for adaptation in developing countries. A large number of recent studies have highlighted the potential for the private sector to scale up climate change adaptation. Engaging the private sector will be vital, but it’s not a silver bullet – and it is no substitute for the kind of bold, coordinated push that the international community must adopt in order to protect those most at risk from climate hazards.

Making international mechanisms fit for adaptation and loss & damage: Insights from community level
10th November, 11:30-12:30 BRT, German Pavilion, Blue Zone
This event will be live-streamed

As the climate crisis intensifies, particularly marginalized urban dwellers and other communities around the world are in need of enhanced support for locally-led adaptation and attention to loss and damage. Building on recent research on adaptation and loss and damage in marginalized rural and urban settlements by Misereor and UNU-EHS as well as the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance and IIASA, this event will discuss multi-level approaches to effectively avert, minimize, and address loss and damage and to localise funding arrangements.

Understanding Resilience and M&E of Interventions: Insights from the Climate Resilience Alliance
10th November, 12:15-12:45 BRT, online
Register for the webinar here

This event will present findings from an impact evaluation using a quasi-experimental design to examine how resilience capitals influence health outcomes after floods, across countries surveyed by the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance.

Road to Belém: Climate Financing for Adaptation Solutions and Addressing Loss and Damage
18th November, 10:30-12:00 BRT, Bangladesh Pavilion, Blue Zone

Bangladesh stands on the frontline of the climate crisis. In 2024 alone, the country was struck by more than six major climate-induced disasters, including record floods, cyclones, heatwaves, and lightning strikes. Organized by Concern Worldwide in partnership with Nature Conservation Management, this event will bring Bangladesh’s lived experiences to the global stage to spotlight how communities are coping with climate impacts. The event will highlight the financing gaps that undermine resilience and propose solutions for adaptation and loss and damage that are accessible, just, and grant based.

Adaptation finance at a crossroads: What COP30 must deliver for Africa
18th November, 14:00-15:00 BRT, EAC Pavilion, Blue Zone

Africa remains one of the most climate-vulnerable regions in the world, despite contributing the least to global greenhouse gas emissions. While Africa’s adaptation needs are nearly $84 billion per year, tracked adaptation finance to the continent falls short at just $14 billion in 2021-2022. Organized by the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance and CARE International, this event brings together policymakers, negotiators and practitioners to discuss how to unlock adaptation finance that is scaled-up, qualitative and aligned with Africa’s priorities.

Bridging the funding gap: Scaling finance for climate adaptation in developing countries
20th November, 16:45 – 18:15 BRT, Side event room 9, Blue Zone

Adaptation remains woefully underfunded. With the Glasgow Climate Pact sunsetting this year, COP30 needs to make adaptation finance a political and urgent priority and leaders should seize every opportunity to elevate adaptation finance. Hosted by Concern, Mercy Corps, Plan International and Practical Action, this event will evaluate progress made and explore how to deliver on adaptation. More details can be found here.
